Ghent
does not have its own airport, but is very easy to reach from the two
main airports in Belgium: Brussels Airport and Brussels South Charleroi
Airport.
Ghent is about a 45-minute drive
from Belgium's national airport, Brussels Airport in Zaventem. The
airport has its own train station, Brussels-National-Airport, with
direct trains to Ghent. The station is located underneath the airport
and can be reached via the elevators and escalators in the Arrivals
Hall. From there, take the train to Ghent (Gent-Sint-Pieters station).
Make sure to get your train ticket in advance.
Brussels South Charleroi Airport is a 70-minute drive from Ghent. Nine
times a day, a shuttle bus runs up and down between Charleroi airport
and Bruges, via Ghent. This also makes Ghent more accessible for
tourists coming to Flanders via Charleroi airport. The bus takes you to
Gent-Sint-Pieters station.
Three other Belgian airports (Ostend, Antwerp and Liège) operate flights to and from various European destinations.
Having arrived in Gent-Sint-Pieters Station, to
the left of the main entrance tram 1 leaves for the city centre
(direction: Korenmarkt/Wondelgem/Evergem). You can buy a ticket at the
ticket vending machine on the tramperron (coinage: 3,00 EUR). Get off
at the 'Korte Meer' or 'Korenmarkt' tram stop. Are you travelling with
more than one person or are you planning to use the tram and/or bus
more often during your stay in Ghent? Then buy a 'Lijnkaart' (16.00 EUR
= 10 rides of 1.60 EUR = one ride equals 60 minutes of unlimited travel
by bus and tram) in the 'Lijnwinkel' at Sint-Pieters station.
You can also reach the hotel in 35 minutes on foot from
Gent-Sint-Pieters Station. Follow the street of tram 1, starting with
the Koningin Elisabethlaan, straight ahead. Alternatively, at the bottom left of Gent-Sint-Pieters Station you will find taxis waiting.
